Don’t make wellness another thing on your to-do list

December has a way of sneaking up on us, doesn’t it? One moment, we’re celebrating the end of winter, and the next, we’re buried under gift lists, work deadlines, and a calendar full of end-of-year events. It’s no wonder your energy feels tapped out.

Here’s the thing: wellness shouldn’t add to your stress—it should ease it. So, let’s ditch the idea that self-care means hours at the gym or a complicated meal plan. Wellness can fit seamlessly into your life, even during the busy holiday season.

1. Keep Hydration Simple

When you’re racing from one task to the next, staying hydrated is often the first thing to go. A simple tip? Keep a water bottle within arm’s reach—on your desk, in your car, or by the kitchen sink. Hydration helps your energy levels and keeps your mind clear for all those holiday decisions.

2. Sneak in Micro-Movements

Forget the hour-long workout if it feels impossible right now. Try small bursts of movement throughout your day. Stretch while waiting watching Netflix in the evening, go for a walk in the park on your work break, or enjoy the long, light evenings with a walk with your significant others (mine being my golden retriever-Alfie).

3. Breathe First, React Later

The family drama, the work emails, the “what am I going to bring to the potluck?” panic—it’s all heightened in December. Before you react, pause and take three deep breaths. It only takes a few seconds but can help ground you before tackling whatever’s in front of you.

4. Prioritise What Brings You Joy

You don’t have to do it all. Pick a few traditions or events that truly light you up and let go of the rest. Whether it’s baking cookies with the kids or a quiet night watching Christmas movies, lean into what makes this season special for you. You don’t have to have the perfect Christmas decorations, piles of beautifully wrapped gifts under the tree, or matching Peter Alexander PJs to find joy this Christmas.

5. Snack Smart (but Don’t Overthink It)

The holiday treats are everywhere, and you shouldn’t feel guilty for enjoying them (Our breakroom at work is a basically a Christmas snack buffet for the month of December). To keep your energy steady, pair them with something nourishing—think a handful of nuts with that Christmas Cookie Time cookie (yum) or some fresh veggies alongside your cheese platter.

Wellness That Works for You

These small steps might seem simple, but that’s the beauty of them. Wellness doesn’t have to be perfect or time-consuming to make a difference. It’s about weaving small moments of care into the life you’re already living.

December is hectic, but it’s also full of joy. Let’s focus on feeling good—not perfect—this holiday season.

If you’re ready to make wellness feel easier, more joyful, and totally doable, I’d love to help. Let’s find what works for you and your busy, beautiful life.
