The ‘Getting Back To’ Season

It’s Mid-Jan, something I’ve decided to call the ‘Getting Back To’ season.

All around me there’s conversations around ‘getting back to’ work, needing to ‘get back to’ the gym, and a whole lotta ‘shoulds’ about ‘getting back to’ healthy eating and wellness routines.

I’ve tried to think about nicer language to use than ‘getting back to’ but I’m stuck. So, it’s all about how we approach this ‘getting back to’ season that matters the most.

What I want to share are a few gentle reminders for this ‘getting back to’ season…

  • Stay in your own lane, avoid comparison! This season will look so different for all of us. Do it at a pace and in a way that works for your needs.

  • Be flexible, true healthy habits are flexible and allow for the ebbs and flows of life.

  • Check in with where this motivation to ‘get back’ is coming from. Is it coming from a healthy place, or a place or pressure or feeling like you have to? A healthy relationship with movement and food means we want to move our bodies because it brings joy and makes us feel good.

  • Don’t ‘should’ on yourself. ‘Get back’ because of your own reasons, not because you feel you ‘should’.

  • Set up realistic expectations. Be kind to yourself. Don’t expect to jump straight back into it-this may result in illness or injury.

Approach your health and wellness goals in a realistic, achievable and sustainable way. Putting too much pressure on yourself to ‘get back to’ unrealistic health habits that are rigid and require perfection may not be all that healthy!

Next week I’ll share what my ‘getting back to’ season looks like after holidays and post-covid. And how I’m doing this in a flexible, compassionate and healthy way.

Be kind to yourself,

M x
