Do this one thing to create 2024 goals that stick

You may have heard of (and roll your eyes at) the concept of SMART goals.

What I love is the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) SMART goals format, which focuses on ‘A’ being for ‘Aligned with Values’.

What are your values? Some of us haven’t had to opportunity to be curious and reflect about what is most important to us.

I’m going to share a few ideas for you to connect with your values…

‘80th Birthday Exercise’

“Close your eyes, take a few breaths, and center and ground yourself. Imagine that you’re at your 80th birthday event. Picture someone important to you standing up and giving a toast. What would they want that person to say?”

Why does this focus on values allow us to better achieve our goals?

Our values act as compass, encouraging us to take actions, no matter how small, that are aligned with this value. Overtime, our lives may change but in general our values remain, meaning that over time we can continue to commit to actions that resonate with our values.

As we move through our life, we will make choices that are aligned with our values and take us closer toward our ‘Rich, Full and Meaningful Life’.
