What I’m up to rn…

My intention I set for today was to be present and enjoy the journey.

So, here’s what I’m up to right now…

I am working three days a week as a Health Improvement Practitioner in Primary Care. This is a new kind of role in New Zealand. It’s based off a primary care behavioural health model, which started in the US around 30 years ago. We offer a free wellbeing service in primary care, which can be used the same day that people come into General Practice to see the Doctor or Practice Nurse. No more public health wait lists! These are focused (less than 30 mins) sessions, based on behavioural change. Although no one likes the word change! We see all age groups, for a variety of problems. From mild to moderate depression and anxiety, to long term conditions like type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. We support these people to make a shift in their behaviour, in a direction towards greater health and wellbeing. I’ve been in this role almost six months now, with so much to learn! AND a huge shift from working in emergency nursing and doing shift work.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I am so lucky to be able to work as part of the team at Align Functional Fitness. This is where I put on my ‘Morgan Holistic Health Practitioner’ hat. I am doing one on one health coaching for Align Fitness members and private clients, and workshops in the studio and the community. I’m working away on Workplace Wellbeing group coaching packages for local businesses, and low cost online resources-watch this space!

I’ve started my study in Lifestyle Medicine with the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine, with hopes of continuing to become a Board-Certified Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner.

Anyway, that’s just the Monday to Friday. There’s so much more in my life that’s really important to me and maintaining balance is essential!

I think it’s crucial to slow down, be present and enjoy the journey. So often we are working on our goals and future focused. Of course, this is important but, looking at where you are now, and how far you’ve come is just as important.

I think back to feeling pretty miserable driving to my nursing shifts, feeling disconnected from my passion and purpose. Back then it was my absolute dream to be a self-employed health coach working in a functional fitness studio!

I am very grateful for what I’m up to right now.
